JOB DESCRIPTION:
The assistant will share play-by-play and pre-, and post-game on-air opportunities, in addition to a variety of media relations and promotions/marketing responsibilities. Over the 140-game season, the assistant will be the secondary broadcaster for all home games and select road games during the season.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Writing: Producing player biographies for Media Guide, feature stories for InFlight Magazine (Pelicans gameday program), game previews, game recaps, press releases and blog entries.
Media Relations: Assist with all media relations efforts, including finalizing media guide, issuing press releases, accommodating interview requests, administering media credentials, assisting with roster moves, creating & distributing stat packs, other gameday materials and various graphic and web design projects, as well as other media information and other related duties. The assistant will also oversee, manage and clean the Pelicans’ press box and act as on-site contact for local media during live shots throughout the season.
Social Media/Website: Assist in managing team’s Twitter and Facebook page with consistent and professional content for baseball related and promotional materials, help in updating team’s website using MiLB’s Homebase platform.
Broadcasting: Each assistant will broadcast up to four innings of play-by-play and five innings of color commentary for each home game and select road games. Each assistant will also host the pre- and post-game shows and will also have ample opportunities to interview players and coaches for broadcasts and team publications, as well as rovers from the Chicago Cubs organization. Help host the Pelicans podcast.
Audio Production: Assist in creating and producing audio elements, including highlights, interviews, commercials and radio imaging for the Pelicans Radio Network.
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
At least one season of radio play-by-play and media relations experience (preference given to pro baseball) / Possess strong character, be reliable and trustworthy / Demonstrate strong writing skills with versatility between different platforms / A self-starter who has the ability to handle multiple projects at once and maintain high quality of work in a professional setting / Knowledge of: Microsoft Office programs, audio editing software, broadcast equipment and Adobe Creative Suite (especially Adobe InDesign) / Applicant should be outgoing, hard-working, organized, and a team-player.
Submissions should include the following:
Required:
- Resume/Cover letter
- Samples of baseball radio play-by-play, including at least two uncut half innings.
- At least two writing samples (MUST include a game recap or comparable piece of writing… in addition, a feature story and press release is strongly preferred)
Non-required (but they won’t hurt!):
- Scoreboard segment (strongly preferred)
- Short highlight reel
- Game Notes or segment of game notes that you have created
- Samples of any web and/or graphic design
COMPENSATION
Monthly stipend TBD. Potential additional earning opportunities TBD.
