Broadcast & Media Assistant - Peoria Chiefs (Peoria, IL)
The Broadcast & Media Assistant is responsible for assisting in the daily operations of the media department and the broadcast of the game. The Broadcast & Media Assistant will work with all areas of the organization to support the overall objectives of the organization. The key responsibilities of the Broadcast & Media Assistant include but are not limited to:
·Assist in the development & execution of all (home game) game day notes and statistics packets.
·Write and distribute news releases regarding Dozer Park and the Peoria Chiefs.
·Update relevant team information on the Peoria Chiefs website.
·Be a part of the radio broadcast of the game helping with the pre & post game shows, possibility of in-game play by play depending on the experience and skill level of the B&M Assistant.
·Conduct a daily pre-game interview for (home game) radio broadcast (player, coach, special guest)
·Work with Audio Production Intern to edit game highlight’s for next day’s broadcast
·Operate the press box during games
·Write the game recap for every home game and update to website
·Help run social networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.
·Participate in meetings regarding media events or team events.
·Assist in management of in-season media efforts including daily interviews
·Help as producer for occasional road games, running the board in the Chiefs studio
·Know the Gamecaster setup for MiLB as a fill-in official scorer
·Other duties as assigned
The Broadcast & Media Assistant will work with the Director of Media & Baseball Operations on a daily basis to ensure that all game day information packets are completed, press releases have been distributed, and all covering media is assisted. The Broadcast & Media Assistant and Director of Media & Baseball Operations will work together in assisting local media with any information they may need to increase coverage of the Peoria Chiefs.
The Broadcast & Media Assistant will be responsible for maintaining a proper working environment in the press box on game days. Duties include distribution of informational packets, assisting the Official Scorer and Scoreboard Operator, and develop and distribute a game summary and box score to local media and both teams.
Reports to:
Nathan Baliva, Director of Media and Baseball Operations
Starts:
March 1 & Ends at the completion of the season (pending playoffs). Must be in attendance for every home game starting April 8. Must be willing and available to work nights and weekends. Some office hours on non-game days or when team is on road.
Compensation:
$500 per month stipend plus minimum wage for all games.
Qualifications:
Minimum – Soph, Jr. or Sr. standing towards a Bachelor’s Degree
Desire to learn about a career in sports
Vast baseball knowledge
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Creative problem solver
Ability to work both independently and in a team environment
Experience with other sports organizations a plus but not a must
Time Commitment: Interns must be available to participate full-time, including evenings, weekends and holidays. On non-event days the hours are generally 9:00AM-5:00PM Monday through Friday (plus possible evenings, weekends and holidays for player and/or mascot appearances, facility events and other special circumstances). On event days generally start at 9:00AM and ends after the event (sometimes as late or later than 11:00PM).
General Information: In addition all interns have the opportunities to assist with various aspects of operating the stadium such as receiving shipments, pulling tarp, facility events (college & high school baseball games and private parties) and limited reception phone coverage. All interns should be highly motivated and interested in the sports industry, willingness to learn and willingness to work long hours and weekends. Applicants who cannot begin the program full-time by the internship start date will be considered only if other applicants are not available.
