Multimedia Journalist - The Detroit Lions (Allen Park, MI)
The Detroit Lions and Ford Field Management currently have an opening for a Multimedia Journalist. Reporting to the Director of Corporate Communications, and working closely with the Broadcasting team, the Multimedia Journalist will be responsible for the conceptualization, planning, videography, on-camera presentation, editing and overall production of engaging video content for the team’s digital properties. This includes social media channels (Website, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.) as well as broadcasting (radio/TV) properties and In-stadium productions.
This full-time position includes a full benefits package as well as wonderful perks! This position will work out of both the Allen Park practice facility and the Ford Field stadium in Detroit and will require travel with the team. Due to the unique nature of this position, the candidate must be able to work extended hours during the NFL season and training camp which will include working on nights, weekends, and holidays.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES
• Report, write, capture visual content, edit and produce stories for multiple platforms on deadline for all digital platforms
• Editing will include integration of graphic elements, sound and music
• Conduct on-camera interviews and contribute as a host, co-host or reporter for weekly online and/or broadcasting shows and features
• Brainstorm, develop and deliver impactful pieces of content to help reach the department’s overall annual content goals across all platforms
• Translate high-level ideas from project owners and convert same to production treatments
• Export finished product to multi-bit format for delivery to various devices at multiple speeds
• Uploading/posting finished product to the team’s digital properties and social media profiles
• Assist Detroitlions.com writers and staff in multimedia to complement written articles.
• Report from team events and possibly serve as a game day host/hostess for the team’s in-stadium video board presentation
REQUIREMENTS
• Bachelor degree in Broadcast Journalism, Communications or related field. Experience may be considered in lieu of a formal degree
• Three+ years of professional experience (not including internships) in video production, sports or news environment with a strong knowledge of the game of football
• Proficiency with media editing software; including Final Cut, Adobe After Effects, CS5, Adobe Premier.
• Understanding of video encoding, codecs and formatting projects for appropriate channels.
• Proficient at posting content to various websites
• Evidence of creativity and innovation in developing project and story ideas
• Evidence of highly developed verbal and written communication skills
• Knowledge and demonstration of editorial judgment and journalistic ethics
• Demonstrated organization and planning skills with the ability to manage multiple projects
• Ability and willingness to work flexible and non-traditional schedules, including evenings, weekends and holidays in a fast-paced environment
• Experience operating multiple types of HD cameras is required
• Experience serving as a completely independent segment producer is preferred. Multimedia journalist will be required to serve as talent, director, writer, videographer and editor
• Ability to draft breaking news-based scripts is preferred
• General understanding of NFL rules, teams, players and culture is required
• A reel (on DVD, Youtube, or Vimeo) that shows you can manage a project from start to finish
