Job Description:
Position Summary: The athletic department is in search of an enthusiastic and sports knowledgeable individual to serve as an assistant for the sports information department. Duties will include serving as the sports information director for select sports, writing various press releases, keeping statistics for a variety of athletic teams, managing our athletics website and generating multimedia content, and doing both play-by-play and color commentary for our home events. This position will report to the Director of Athletic Marketing and Communications.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
1. Press Releases: Will write press releases on game results, athletic award selections (conference players of the week, all-americans, etc.), schedule changes, and other news related to all athletic teams. Will also write weekly preview pieces highlighting the upcoming schedules for all athletic teams.
2. Statistics: Will keep the official statistics for most athletic teams in the StatCrew program, share game files with opposing teams and the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference, and upload them to the conference and BenU websites. May also travel with the baseball or softball teams on their annual Spring trips to perform these duties.
3. Broadcast: Will broadcast all of our home athletic events including but not limited to: football, volleyball, men’s soccer, women’s soccer, men’s basketball, women’s basketball, baseball, softball, men’s lacrosse, women’s lacrosse. Travel to some road locations is possible, and set-up of all broadcast equipment will be required.
4. Generating Multimedia Content: Will work hand-in-hand with the Director of Athletic Marketing and Communications to produce video content for the athletics website, such as student-athlete interviews and postgame interviews with players and coaches. May also aid with video editing on longer projects.
Minimum Job Requirements:
Experience:
Strong writing skills, broadcast experience, and knowledge of StatCrew is a must. Previous experience in web management is preferred. Must be knowledgeable of football, volleyball, soccer, basketball, baseball, softball, track and field, cross country, golf, and lacrosse
Working Conditions:
Able to work nights and weekends
