INDIANAPOLIS INDIANS: Job Description
Job Title: Broadcaster Status: Seasonal
Reports To: Director of Corporate Sales & Marketing FLSA: Exempt
Department: Corporate Sales & Marketing Effective: April – September 2015
Job Summary:
The Indians seek an energetic, motivated broadcaster to join veteran play-by-play broadcaster Howard Kellman in announcing the Indianapolis Indians baseball games. The successful candidate will act as producer and co-announcer of all Indians broadcasts. All games are broadcast on WNDE 1260-AM. Audio of home games airs on Hometown Sports & News (HTSN), digital channel of Indianapolis ABC-TV affiliate, which reaches more than one million Central Indiana homes. When traveling with the team the position assists with the Indians’ communications department with clubhouse and game reporting duties.
Essential Functions:
-Play-by-play and color commentary for all 144 regular-season games plus playoffs
-Provide full coverage as assigned for road games to include live, in-game-tweeting from Indians’ account; write and build the postgame recap, distribute via Indians’ email, post it to the Indians’ blog/website, and make postgame calls to media
-Assist with daily media relations duties of all road games including game notes, notification of team game-day information and coordination of postgame interviews
-Contribute weekly content/story ideas/interviews
-Notify communications team of daily information regarding player moves/roster changes and other pertinent updates
-Execute on-air paid and promotional reads as well as interviews with sponsors, guests and community leaders
-Work with the Telecast Production Manager to produce televised pre-game show and on-field postgame interviews
-Provide voiceover and standup talent for various video pieces to be broadcast in park, online and on HTSN
-Serve as on-site technician for all broadcasts and events, including setup, maintenance and troubleshooting of equipment
-Produce all radio broadcasts; collaborate with Telecast Production Manager and Partnership Activation Manager on all broadcast formats
-Write, edit, voice and produce radio spots as needed
-Provide air-checks to Indians departments as requested
Minimum Qualifications:
-Three (3) years baseball radio and/or TV play-by-play experience
-On-air and on-camera experience
-Excellent written and verbal communications skills; sports-writing skills a plus
-Bachelor’s degree in journalism, broadcast or communications preferred
-Knowledge of soundboard and audio equipment
-Ability to travel and work non-traditional hours April-Sept which includes weekends and holidays
Skills & Abilities:
-Outgoing, self-motivated and goal-driven
-Ability to succeed in a team setting and stay focused on individual goals
-Exceptional interview skills
-Ability to learn and use InDesign software
-Ability to multitask in a stressful environment and maintain strong attention to detail
-Able to lift up to 50 lbs.
Compensation:
$3,000 per month plus road travel and accommodations
