Penguins New Media – Radio Broadcast Host - Pittsburgh Penguins (Pittsburgh, PA)
Description: Exciting opportunity to host pre- and post-game radio shows for all 82 regular season games (plus playoffs) for the Pittsburgh Penguins Radio Network; will also do live on-camera intermission updates on the video board at CONSOL Energy Center for all home games; host of weekly Pensweek audio magazine; various podcasts as warranted by team news during the week. Qualified candidates also will have the opportunity to have additional on-camera responsibilities for the team’s website, social media and PensTV
Reports to: Penguins Media Group leadership team, which consists of: VP of Communications, VP of Marketing, SVP of Sales and Broadcasting
Duties and Responsibilities:
Be the primary host of pre-game and post-game shows on all Pittsburgh Penguins Radio Network broadcasts
Provide live on-camera intermission updates on the video board at CONSOL Energy Center for all home games
Participate in intermission segments on radio for all road games
Provide play by play coverage for Penguins Radio Network preseason games when the current play by play voice is not available (typically five games)
Serve as a back-up play by play or color analyst for Pittsburgh Penguins Radio Network in the event of unforeseen circumstances
Voice and produce short duration audio features that would be distributed to Penguins Radio Network affiliate stations or social media channels
Host on camera video features for the Penguins website, mobile app and social media channels during the season and off season as assigned by the PensTV executive producer
Host the Penguins weekly one hour audio magazine “Pensweek” to be broadcast on flagship station WXDX-FM and participating Penguins Radio Network stations
Develop one-on-one relationships with players, coaches, managers and hockey operations staff to improve the opinions and importance of the radio to them. Use those individuals as show guests whenever possible
Work with producer and executive producer on the radio network's on air imaging and production values
Provide voice over work for commercials and in-house audio production that may air on the Pittsburgh Penguins Radio Network.
Serve as an ambassador and make appearances on behalf of the Pittsburgh Penguins Radio Network and the team in general
Make appearances in other Pittsburgh media to serve as a team expert and promote the Pittsburgh Penguins Radio Network
Qualifications
Qualified candidates should have a minimum of three years on air sports broadcasting experience with a professional sports franchise. Certain collegiate sports broadcasting experience would also qualify and be a benefit. Candidates should have extensive knowledge of the NHL and the game of hockey in particular and be able to provide instant analysis of game conditions and results. Additionally, ideal candidates would possess the unique balance of being able to be a team ambassador and a credible analyst of the team's games.
Qualified candidates should have a four year bachelor’s degree in broadcasting, sports management or communications
