FIRST POSITION OPENING:
Graduate Assistant for Broadcasting
The University of Akron is now accepting applications in the Department of Athletics for the position of Graduate Assistant for Broadcasting. The University of Akron, a Division I institution located in Akron, Ohio, is a member of the Mid-American Conference, is part of the Football Bowl Subdivision and maintains 18 men’s and women's intercollegiate sports. This is a nine-month position, beginning January 2016, that will interact within the department’s external relations operation, which includes marketing and promotions, communications, new media, ticketing, and development. Akron will institute an ESPN3 broadcasting format in the fall of 2016.
Responsibilities:
The graduate assistant for Broadcasting will perform on-camera and off-camera work in scheduling, hosting, filming, editing, and posting game recaps and video interviews with student-athletes and coaches for the athletics department’s website, coaches’ television shows, social media channels, and other needs. Other responsibilities include serving as a play-by-play broadcaster for live webcasts of women’s basketball, men’s and women’s soccer, softball, and volleyball.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree required. A minimum of one year of full-time experience in sports broadcasting on camera or a related field required, preferably at the collegiate level or at a television station. Experience as a sports broadcaster on radio or camera is strongly preferred. Must be capable of filming, editing and posting videos on deadline. Must be efficient in After Effects, Photoshop, Motion and Final Cut Pro. Individual must show ability and desire to work independently on projects and provide game coverage, and demonstrate comfort with on-camera experience as well as cutting and editing video segments. Candidates should have a strong desire to work within college athletics in reporting, video production, new media communications, public relations and/or marketing. Upon acceptance of position, candidate must apply and be accepted into one of The University of Akron’s graduate school programs. Nine (9) credit hours per semester are required to be considered full-time. This position can be renewed for a second year. Must be available to work nights and weekends as needed.

This position includes a large amount of on-camera interaction with student-athletes, coaches, fans, alumni, and administrators. The main responsibility is cutting, editing, producing, and posting original videos.
Job functions include: shooting all home events (and select road events), editing game highlights for GoZips.com and Zips Weekly, as well as coaches’ tv shows, producing feature stories for Z360 as well as coaches’ tv shows, and producing intro videos for volleyball and both basketball teams.
Qualifications:
