Media Relations & Broadcasting Assistant - Potomac Nationals (Woodbridge, VA)
This is a full-time Media Relations & Broadcasting Assistant position which will operate directly under the Director of Corporate Sales, Media Relations & Broadcasting. The position will include media relations management and broadcasting for all 140 Potomac Nationals’ games (70 home/70 road) and any potential playoff contests. Team bus travel will be provided for road games.
Chosen candidate should be available from early-March through at least mid-September.
This Media Relations & Broadcasting Internship is an invaluable opportunity for a young professional interested in breaking into Minor League Baseball or furthering their MiLB career within one of the most talented organizations in Major League Baseball, the Washington Nationals, as an impact member of the Potomac Nationals, made up of one of the most creative and innovative front office teams within the Minor League landscape.
The Potomac Nationals, the Class-A Advanced affiliate of the Washington Nationals, positioned in one of the most exciting and diverse media markets in all of professional sports and located just 30 minutes south of Washington, D.C., are seeking an energetic, creative, media-minded individual with strong knowledge of the game of baseball to play an important, multi-faceted role in the club’s media relations and broadcasting department.
Candidate will assist the Media Relations & Broadcasting Department with:
-Press releases dissemination to official media list
-Production of game notes
-Coordination and distribution of statistical packs
-Credentialing official media members
-Serving as clubhouse liaison to players and coaching staff
-Post-game recaps distributed to the media and posting stories on official team website, www.potomacnationals.com
-Other web publishing for www.potomacnationals.com
-Features for gameday souvenir program and official website
-Handling interview requests for players and coaches from media members
-Social media postings on official team accounts (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram)
-Press box operations
-Coordination with team’s official photographer and arranging player headshots and other in-game action shots
-All public relations transmissions of the club including video production for team marketing use
-Hosting pre- and post-game shows on Potomac Nationals Baseball Network (streamed through official website), producing the live broadcast, executing live play-by-play announcing and color commentary on the PNBN (as a #2), contributing interviews with P-Nats players and coaching staff to PNBN, and producing commercial voice-overs for commercials to run on PNBN
-Assisting with annual Potomac Nationals Media Day event
-All media relations, public relations, and broadcasting duties assigned by Director of Corporate Sales, Media Relations & Broadcasting
NOTE: Chosen candidate will participate in all 140 game broadcasts (70 home/70 road); will broadcast middle innings of play-by-play (4th, 5th, and 6th) and provide color commentary for all 70 home games and contribute to pre-game and post-game shows (and assist Media Relations department) while traveling with the team to serve as a solo play-by-play broadcaster/on-site media relations point of contact for half of the 70-game road schedule; candidate will revert to home game protocol for the remaining 35 road games while traveling with the club
Other Duties:
-Sponsorship client hospitality responsibilities
-Community appearances with official mascot
-Potential speaking engagements
-Ticket office and corporate partnership sales training
-Pulling field tarp
-All other tasks assigned by Director of Corporate Sales, Media Relations and Broadcasting
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Ideal candidate will be a tenacious, articulate, self-starting college graduate with a degree in the Communications/Media Relations/Public Relations/Radio & TV Broadcasting/New Media/Sports Management concentrations seeking eventual full-time employment in the media/public relations and/or broadcasting departments of a Minor League Baseball team or in the sports journalism/sports marketing industries who demonstrates understanding of the current state of the business of MiLB and MLB, the history of MiLB and MLB, and the importance of attention to detail with regards to all broadcasting and public relations/media relations efforts.
Prior Minor League Baseball/Major League Baseball media relations, public relations, community relations, and/or broadcasting experience is preferred but not mandatory.
