Description:
The PT Lead Broadcaster position serves as the play-by-play voice of the Hershey Bears Hockey Team for all live broadcasts.
Job Functions:
Compose a radio broadcast log of Radio Network spots and Corporate Partnerships spots, update as necessary, and constantly provide all spots to Radio Network stations.
Determine consistent style and content of all facets of the broadcast while professionally promoting the BEARS.
Co-host a monthly Live Old Barn Hockey Show at the Bears’ Den at Hershey Lodge, while working to expand the content and audience (as required).
Record advertising donuts and commercial spots, as needed
Conduct professional interviews to fill pre-game and intermission air time.
Inform the public in an objective and supportive manner of each game that the
Bears play both at home and on the road.
Maintain a professional working relationship with the team’s flagship stations to ensure a strong commitment between the station and The Hershey Bears (including the parent company, Hershey Entertainment & Resort Co.)
Hold monthly meetings with station board operators to ensure a quality broadcast.
Execute and follow all directives of both the American Hockey League (AHL) and Federal Communications in regard to on-air content.
Serve the team as the television play-by-play voice of the BEARS for all telecasts.
Simulcast games in the event of the unavailability of other radio talent.
Partner with the Social Media Community Manager for the Bears, by assisting in posting play-by-play and game updates on select BEARS branded social media channels.
Assist the Corporate Communications team with the production and distribution of a weekly press release with team updates, status, etc.
Maintain a professional working relationship with all media outlets as to provide the best coverage and publicity for the team.
Assist with the efficient and timely response to all email and internet inquiries from fans and media, and channel those inquires to the applicable responder, as needed.
Assist the Corporate Communications team with the composition of a training camp packet of information for coaches, players, team management and staff, and local/national media.
Produce game notes, stats, rosters, biographies and AHL media kits on all home game days. Provide notes, stats, rosters and biographies to teams hosting the BEARS no later than the Tuesday before a weekend road trip.
Work with assistant coach in sending scoring change requests to the AHL offices.
Comply with all other AHL requirements via the Policies and Procedures Manual, as well as the Professional Hockey Players Association collective bargaining agreement.
Requirements:
Basic Qualifications:
Must be 18 years of age or older.
Must have a minimum of three (3) years work experience in live broadcasting, preferably in the sports industry.
Additional Qualifications:
Must be a subject matter expert in all things BEARS including team history, player stats/updates, team trades, coaches and staff, league updates, game rules, etc.
Have working knowledge of set-up and tear-down of all equipment
Must have solid writing and communications background
Must be comfortable attending proper training required by HE&R and the AHL to further improve professional development.
