2014-2015 Season Broadcasting Intern - Columbus Blue Jackets (Columbus, OH)
Responsibilities: Game nights:
- Ability to utilize recording device to obtain post-game interviews to be played back in radio post-game show
- Ability to edit and post gameday highlights and post-game interviews to Blue Jackets social media outlets
- Assist in set-up of post-game show (if show takes place off-site)
- Assist broadcast talent (starting line-ups, intermission and post-game stats, escorting intermission guest to the home radio booth).
- Assist Director of Broadcasting in escorting network affiliate guests to and from the booth (specifically Affiliate Night)
Non-game days:
- Write and produce our weekly radio feature (Blue Jackets Weekly) that will be distributed to affiliate stations on the Blue Jackets Radio Network. Would provide him or her experience in working with CBJ on-air talent, interacting with players and coaches, honing writing and scripting skills, working under a deadline
- Produce Blue Jackets Plays of the Week (weekly feature that runs in the intermission of a game broadcast)
- Produce NHL News and Notes (weekly segment that airs during an intermission)
- Preparation of affiliate presentations and mailings
- Assist in projects within Broadcasting Department (fulfillment of radio network benefits and requests)
- Develop and produce podcasting content for BlueJackets.com. Work with Web Site Manager to learn how to post audio to the Podcast page
Requirements: This internship requires the candidate to have a specific goal of someday working in broadcast production, in particular radio or audio production. His or her major needs to be in Broadcast Journalism, Mass Communications, or a similar career pursuit. Experience at the campus radio or TV station, or a prior internship at a commercial/university broadcast outlet is preferred. Knowledge of editing software like Adobe Audition is required. Must have good communication skills, knowledge of hockey and the Blue Jackets, and be able to react under pressure.
Required Hours: Game nights: 5:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Non-game days 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. or 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. (September through end of season).
