POSITION: SPORTS INFORMATION DIRECTOR/MATADOR ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION COORDINATOR
SALARY: $41,174 plus excellent fringe benefits
QUALIFICATIONS: Required: Bachelor’s degree in Communication, Sales, Marketing, Business or a related field and 2 years’ sales experience. Demonstrated experience or ability to conduct play-by-play broadcasts. Demonstrated skill in organizing resources and setting priorities. Ability to use independent judgment. Excellent communication skills, oral and written; ability to interact communicate effectively with the media and, various constituencies, and a diverse community. Demonstrated ability to coordinate and organize meetings and special events. Demonstrated skill in computers and software applications; demonstrated knowledge of athletic sports, facilities, and equipment.
TYPICAL DUTIES: Under general supervision, organize and coordinate Matador Athletic Association (MAA) activities and athletic-related media relations activities; promote and build membership in the MAA and assist in formulating fundraising strategies and activities. Write and distribute newsletters, brochures, and athletic information to MAA members and various media outlets; responds to requests for team histories, photos, statistics, and related information. Cultivate and maintain positive relationships with local and state media, the local community, and MAA members.
Develop relationships with donors, underwriters, and sponsors for the MAA, Matador Sports Networks, and athletics events and tournaments. Responsible for successful execution of underwriting and sponsorship strategies through sales calls and meetings; development of sponsorship/underwriting materials, contracts, and media spots.
Prepare press releases regarding AWC athletic team, student-athlete, coach, and Matador staff accomplishments, history, statistics and highlights as well as upcoming Matador events; identify appropriate media and channel distribution, coordinating with support services and college/community partners.
Prepare and oversee the production and distribution of athletic promotional materials including a monthly newsletter, brochures, TV/radio advertising, flyers, programs, and press releases/kits; gathers and compiles statistical information. Respond to media and public requests for athletic information; disseminates information via appropriate media and channels.
Maintain AWC Athletics website to include online calendar of events, web gallery specific to athletics program, real-time score boxes and scoring information for all sports programs, player profiles, press releases and media stories, MAA membership pages, Matador Sports Network pages, and relevant third-party links.
Develop and maintain community outreach program for MAA staff, coaches, and student-athletes; coordinate special events such as “Day of Champions” and “MAA Monthly Meetings” to increase public awareness; identify and develop relations and involvement opportunities for MAA staff, coaches and student-athletes.
Develop and maintain all facets of Matador Sports Network, its entities, and underwriters; produce and host weekly Matador Mania television show; broadcast sports games, performing play-by-play, via radio, television and the Internet; coordinate broadcast schedules and content with College and community media to include advertising, scripting, voice spots, and support services/equipment.
Develop and produce media guide and programs; write program articles, season outlook and season reviews for each sport; coordinate sport photo shoots; work with MAA membership and underwriters for ad development. Coordinate with college staff and community partners on the development, production, and distribution of media guides/programs.
Travel with athletic teams; assist with set up of materials and equipment for game-day operations and events; write and prepare pre-, in-, and post-game documents for media, press box and operations personnel, student-athletes, cheer squad and appropriate parties; provide information to opponent sports information office regarding AWC team; respond to media requests.
Performs other duties as assigned.
