Director of Media and Broadcasting - Traverse City Beach Bums (Traverse City, MI)
This is a full-time year around position that requires a bright active individual who is a capable sales professional as well as a sports writer and broadcaster. The Director will be responsible for the media (printed and verbal); and broadcasting all 96 games for the TRAVERSE CITY BEACH BUMS.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (include but are not limited to):
Meet with all types of area media to promote the TRAVERSE CITY BEACH BUMS
Must be able to use a set advertising budget and apply it to Media advertising when & where it is most effective throughout the year
Compile and design The Sandbox News (Beach Bums Newsletter) and be responsible for its timely distribution
Website maintenance and design
Assist with press box operations during games
Strive at all times to make the TRAVERSE CITY BEACH BUMS a first-class professional sports organization; work diligently to build and strengthen relationships with corporate partners, the media, the fans and the community
Additional duties as assigned by the general manager.
POSITION DESCRIPTION includes but is not limited to:
Work closely with other departments (Promotions, Community Relations, Baseball Ops, etc.) to promote TRAVERSE CITY BEACH BUMS throughout the year
Work creatively with team radio station to cut interesting ads for team sponsors and keep them updated as often as necessary
Respond quickly with daily media requests such as statistical research, player interviews and photo shoots
Complete research projects for the media guide and daily game notes
Collect, organize and distribute the Beach Bums’ daily press clippings
Extensive Travel is required
In addition to the general requirements, the ideal candidate will possess:
A great imagination with design experience
Creative writing experience
Significant background and experience in baseball PR or college athletic communications, sports information, etc. (two-three years media/public relations experience in baseball)
Superior knowledge of baseball rules and baseball history
Aggressive and motivated individual with a passion for sales
Team Loyalty — work for the betterment of the TRAVERSE CITY BEACH BUMS
Strong interpersonal skills a must
Superior organizational habits and ability to manage multiple projects and adapt to unforeseen changes in the daily schedule/routine without issue
Strong attention to detail
Must be goal oriented, hardworking, teachable and driven to be the best
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Must be able to generate a minimum of $75K in sponsorship sales.
HOURS OF WORK: Typical hours of non-game day work will be 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM (and beyond). This position has important game day responsibilities. Estimated game day hours will be 9 AM – 10 PM (and beyond).
START DATE: January, 2015
SALARY: $26,000/year
