AHL Manager of Public Relations and Broadcasting - Sharks Sports and Entertainment (San Jose, CA)
Summary
The Manager of Media Relations/Broadcasting will oversee and ultimately be responsible for the day-to-day responsibilities of the SMH Public Relations and Broadcasting Departments. The Manager, acting under the direction of the Director of Media Relations will implement various publicity plans and promotions designed to augment SMH’s marketing and communication goals This individual will also be responsible for serving as the team’s broadcast representative and the point person for hockey operations tasks such as team services and various administrative duties.
Essential Functions
The key responsibilities of this position are to oversee the following areas: broadcasting, media and public relations and hockey operations’ team services.
Major Responsibilities and Representative Tasks
Media Relations:
• Work with the director of media relations to plan and execute a broad media relations policy for SMH
• Serve as the day-to-day media relations contact and spokesman for the organization.
• Oversee the writing and distribution of press releases for SMH/SSE events.
• Coordinate publicity activities, media interviews, and on-site assistance for SMH events.
• Produce and distribute game materials for all AHL games.
• Coordinate production of team publications
• Act as primary liaison in the field of publicity and media support between SSE/SMH and the AHL
• Maintain comprehensive media contact lists.
• Maintain photos archives of events performed at game rink.
• Maintain the department archives, including video/DVD’s and clippings.
• Perform other tasks and projects as required.
• Work in tandem with other SMH departments to produce a unified messaging platform.
Broadcasting:
• Oversee all aspects of broadcasting of the AHL games (radio/television/internet streaming), including play-by-play call of all preseason, regular season and playoff SMH games.
• Act as point person with AHL Neulion video streaming regulations
• Serve as a public personality/spokesman for the organization.
Hockey Operations
• Oversee and schedule all off ice game officials, statisticians and game night staff.
• Work with General Manager on hockey operations as needed
• Oversee team travel and act as point of contact as it relates to team travel
• Coordinate with finance department team per diem for travel
• Travel with the team
Competencies and Qualifications
1. Proficiency in written and oral communication, especially writing, proofreading and editing skills.
2. Persuasive communications techniques
3. Proficiency at computerized recordkeeping and administrative requirements of the position. To include but not limited to Microsoft Word, Adobe Illustrator and Pagemaker
4. Positive and enthusiastic approach to customers and contacts so as to convey a positive organization image.
5. Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to maintain smooth working relationships with sales employees, as well as other employees and constituencies.
6. A minimum of at least three years of college completed from an accredited college or university in related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
