Manager, Broadcast Services/Communications & PBP Announcer - Lake Erie Monsters & Cleveland Gladiators (Cleveland, OH)
Position Overview:
The “Voice” of the Monsters (AHL) and Gladiators (AFL) is responsible for the play-by-play of all radio and TV broadcasts including pregame, intermission, and postgame shows and host of all ancillary programming on other radio, TV and web. Provides content for social media avenues such as Twitter and Facebook. Makes regular contributions with stories, blogs, and live chats on team’s official web site. Provides voiceover work for commercials, promotional announcements, and other projects. In collaboration and under the direction of our Monsters and Gladiators VP of Marketing and Communications, this role will also serve as our Manager of Team Communications overseeing all aspects of Monsters and Gladiators PR that is related to the respective players, coaches and leagues, etc. This role will be the lead PR contact related to the team and will work to maintain and grow our media relations footprint and will also work to creatively grow our coverage area in Northeast Ohio and beyond.
Responsibilities:
Serves as play-by-play announcer for 76 regular season games and all playoff games on the Monsters Radio Network and all games that are simulcast on TV. Develop format and content, determine production needs, and develop programming features.
Serves as play-by-play announcer for 18 regular season games and all playoff games on the Gladiators Radio Network and all games that are simulcast on TV (Monsters games take priority on conflicts).
Serves as own engineer for road radio broadcasts. Much have general understanding of Comrex Access remote gear.
Develops storylines and produces intermission features for each televised game.
Coordinates all live in game partner and marketing messages, billboards, and other features with Corporate Services staff to insure all partner commitments are executed.
Serves as point person for all content coordination and scheduling with radio stations.
Attends all team related functions, practices, games, and other events.
Travels with team for all road trips and receives team rate per diem for such trips.
Leads the Communications team with all aspects related to public relations (interviews, etc.), media relations (game notes), and website (stories, video posting). Writes complete recap for distribution following each game broadcast.
Maintains our current media relations footprint and helps to grow our coverage area, taking advantage of our new affiliation with the Columbus Blue Jackets
Assists in development of annual production and business plans, including capital item recommendations.
Requirements:
Two to three years of experience serving as radio and/or TV play-by-play announcer for minor or major league hockey team. Must have extensive knowledge of the sport and the rules.
Previous media relations experience is a must.
Strong organizational and interpersonal skills a must and willing to work long hours, weekends, and holidays as schedule requires.
Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook computer experience necessary.
Audio and Video editing skills very helpful.
